Picture yourself helping people when they are in desperate need. Your blog can be one way to do so. You can steadily guide your readers with valuable insights and engaging stories.
Blogging establishes you as a reliable blogger and gives you a loyal readership and traffic to your site.
Data also shows the power of consistent blogging.
As per Hubspot, if your blog is not even a year old, you should try to post at least 6-8 blogs per month. But these blogs should be on “ a few important and promising topic clusters align with your brand.”
But if you have a blog with a complex niche that needs extensive research, your goal should be to publish 2 to 4 blogs monthly and maintain high quality.
Consistency was a big issue with me. But not anymore, as I have some amazing tricks to stay consistent which I have learned from many successful bloggers and content creators and I will share these tips and tricks with you.
Key takeaways
- Consistent blogging can change your blogging game completely. It will increase audience engagement, boost SEO, enhance your credibility and authority as a blogger, create a community of like-minded people, and give you monetizing opportunities from your blog.
- Overcome challenges that hamper your consistency with these tried and tested tips.
Why does consistent blogging matter?
Though there is no one-size-fits-all formula for success in your blog, consistency matters. Being consistent with your blog is one way to show your audience that you are serious about what you are doing and dedicated and committed to provide quality content that helps.
Here are some benefits of posting on your blog consistently.
- Audience Engagement: Regular posts keep your audience engaged and returning for more. Consistency builds a routine for your readers, making them look forward to your content.
- SEO Benefits: Search engines favor websites that are updated frequently. Consistent posting improves your chances of ranking higher in search engine results, driving more organic traffic to your blog.
- Authority and Credibility: Regularly updating your blog helps establish you as an authority in your niche. It shows that you are active, knowledgeable, and committed, which builds trust with your audience.
- Content Depth: Consistent posting allows you to cover a wider range of topics within your niche over time. This adds depth to your blog, making it a more comprehensive resource.
- Community Building: Frequently posting provides more opportunities for interaction with your readers. Engaging with comments and discussions on your posts helps build a community around your blog.
- Skill Improvement: Writing regularly improves your writing skills and helps you develop your voice and style. It also keeps you updated with the latest trends and information in your field.
- Monetization Opportunities: If you’re looking to monetize your blog, consistent posting is key. Advertisers and sponsors are more likely to partner with blogs that have a steady flow of content and a consistent audience.
How to overcome challenges that hamper consistent blogging
In Neil Patel’s words, “blogging is like any sort of long-term relationship. Some days are great, and others aren’t so great, but you’re in it for the long haul.”
When I read those lines, I immediately related to them. I had a bunch of close bosom friends in my hometown and when I shifted my base to Mumbai, I slowly but steadily lost touch with them. I cannot think of doing that to my husband and my family. That’s why I work on our relationship.
The same applies to my blog. I work on it daily because I had to say goodbye to my previous blog due to inconsistency.
Here’s what is working for me to maintain consistency with my blog:
1. Work on your routine
This is the first thing you need to do. I used to binge on YouTube and Netflix. Now, I don’t use headphones while working to prevent my mind from diverting.
My routine is set and I follow it as much as possible. I have fixed times to do everything. My mornings start with preparing lunch boxes for my kids, and they end with learning new things to upskill myself.
I try to avoid all distractions and keep a tab on things I do (especially scrolling through social media and watching Netflix). To do so, I started using a timer while indulging in guilty pleasure. It really worked for me.
That’s a glimpse of my daily routine. In between, I need to help my kids with their homework and studies.
All my favorite shows and books I enjoy during the weekend. For that too I have set times. Weekends are cheat days so sometimes I break the rules to cope with the monotony.
2. Create a content calendar
With proper planning, you will be able to maintain consistency. That’s when the content calendar comes in handy. It helps you plan your content ahead of time.
How would you prepare a content calendar?
- You can use a premade template or a Google spreadsheet to prepare a calendar. You can also use a tool to do the same.
- Prepare it for the next 6 months. Fill it in with all your content ideas. Do proper keyword research and then prepare the list of topics.
- Customize the calendar by fields like publish date, due date, title or topic, status, content type, and link to files. You may have to make further fields for the type of content blog (primary, secondary keywords, meta description) and video (link to script, thumbnail, original video, edited video).
- Decide how often you are publishing and accordingly schedule your content. I try to publish 2 blogs per month. You may start with one.
3. Never sacrifice consistency for perfection
If you insist on making your blog perfect, you may get stuck. So, focus more on writing consistently instead of writing perfect blogs. Practice will make you a perfect blogger eventually.
Take baby steps in your journey to handle all the hurdles that come along.
4. Build a unique voice and write what interests you
When you write in a unique voice to establish a strong bond with your readers, you create a sense of authenticity and connection that resonates deeply with them. This personal touch fosters trust and loyalty, making your audience feel understood and valued. By sharing your distinct perspective and genuine insights, you invite readers into your world, encouraging them to engage more meaningfully with your content.
Also, you need to try to write what interests you the most. These simple steps will make you a more consistent writer. Writing topics that don’t interest you will hamper your consistency, as you will be bored soon. At least, that’s what happens with me.
5. Reward yourself for small wins
You should reward yourself for small wins like consistently writing blogs for 6 months. You can do so by sharing your victory in social media platforms like LinkedIn.
6. Use AI where necessary
From brainstorming for interesting topics to preparing the structure of your blog, AI can make your writing journey easier. Give it a proper prompt and half of your job is done.
Stay energetic, be consistent, and if needed be spontaneous
You need to be mentally and physically energetic to stay consistent. If you are bored with what you are doing, you won’t be able to maintain consistency.
At the same time, you can be spontaneous, too. You may come across a new topic trending among your readers and may sound interesting to you. Pounce on it and publish it straight away, it’s the hot cake that will sell instantly.
Planning and consistency are the heart and soul of your blog but sometimes changing the plan may make you happy and give you the energy to stay consistent.
