A few weeks back, I was searching for influencers who are talking about taboos related to women’s anatomy and our health. In my quest, I found Dr. Tanaya Narendra on Instagram, better known as Dr Cuterus. Tanaya is a physician, embryologist, and digital educator revolutionising how we talk about reproductive health, sexuality, and menstruation.  So, I thought, why not talk about her?

Starting a conversation around taboos using science & humour

Dr. Tanaya uses her platform to spark crucial conversations on topics often shrouded in stigma, like menstrual health, fertility, PCOS, HPV vaccination, and sexual wellness. Tanaya makes her videos engaging with her wit, clarity, and boldness. She dismantles myths, such as the shocking yet common misconception that people urinate and menstruate from the same opening.

Growing up in a household where open discussions about sex and anatomy were normal (both her parents are fertility specialists), she brings that same frankness to her content.

“Instead of saying I’m itching down there,’ I would say I have itchiness on my vulva,” she shares, emphasising the importance of precise, shame-free language.

Impact Beyond Social Media

Her videos are not just another informative video, but they’re life-changing. After her posts on HPV vaccination, a significant number of her followers got vaccinated, protecting themselves from cervical cancer. She has also guided over 300 menstruators in switching to menstrual cups, promoting sustainable period care. “I stopped counting after 300!” she laughs.

She highlights how gender, caste, and socio-economic factors affect healthcare access, making her advocacy intersectional and inclusive.  In short, she goes beyond biology.

Why She Matters

In a world where reproductive health is often misrepresented or ignored, Dr. Tanaya is shattering all taboos and busting every myth. She’s not just spreading awareness, she’s empowering woman to take control of their bodies.
